QUESTION:

What goes into my wedding or elopement package price?

ANSWER:

There are a lot of things I consider when building your perfect photo package, but the most important factor is time. Every couple has different priorities and visions for how their wedding day will look, and that usually changes the amount of time I would need to be there! For example, some people really love getting ready photos but don’t anticipate needing a ton of reception coverage. Other people don’t care for getting ready but they prefer lots of dancing shots. I also factor in things like travel, number of guests and people in your wedding party, if I’ll need a second photographer, etc. We’ll cover all this stuff in our initial phone call before I send you detailed pricing!

QUESTION:

How far out should I book my wedding photographer?

ANSWER:

This one is also pretty situational. If you’re planning a big wedding or a destination wedding that involves a decent amount of planning, I would suggest booking your photographer as soon as possible (if you can, try and lock in your photographer about a year out). If you’re looking locally, it still helps to try and secure a photographer as soon as you secure a venue, but typically there’s a little more wiggle room. That being said, if you find a photographer you totally love, don’t hesitate to reach out to them!

QUESTION:

How much should I budget for a wedding photographer?

ANSWER:

Budgeting for a wedding is probably one of the bigger challenges you and your partner will face, and theres never a one-size-fits-all answer. For some people’s wedding, photography is the biggest priority. For others, food is most important. So before setting a strict photography budget, I personally suggest making sure you and your partner have the same priorities and a clear idea of what you’re willing to spend where. There are also things to consider like the market you live in (photographers in New York are going to charge a lot more than photographer in Oregon). All that to say, generally, you can expect to spend about 10-25% of your wedding budget on photography services.

question:

should i make my own shot list?

Answer:

Short answer is no. Long answer is, you can if you want to, but before your big day, I’ll send you a questionnaire that covers every single thing that I’ll need to know before shooting your wedding. By the time we get to your big day, I’ll already be familiar enough with you and your priorities, and because my style is so documentary, I don’t want to be distracted by a list on your big day, I wanna be capturing things as they unfold! The questionnaire I send out will help me with family member names, specific addresses, other vendors etc. And the rest will unfold naturally. Trust me, I got you.

Question:

If I have a destination wedding, should I hire a photographer near me or local to the venue?

Answer:

My advice is to always hire a photographer you’re comfortable with. So if you’re comfortable hiring someone local to the area (that you likely haven’t met yet) then go for it. If you’d rather hire someone you know a little better, I say bring your photographer along! Personally, I love traveling and I’m totally down to make the trip with you. In my experience, it makes a world of difference to feel comfortable with your wedding photographer, so choosing to bring someone with you whom you’re already familiar with is the way to go.

QUESTION:

DO YOU GIVE OUT THE RAW PHOTOS?

ANSWER:

Nope. Editing the photos is half of the work when it comes to being an artist, so when you’re paying for photography services, you’re paying for the whole package! After your big day, I take the time to curate your wedding gallery with the very best images from the day, and I edit them accordingly. Your gallery will come with high-resolution download and web-sized download options that you can share and print as you please. If you’re a fellow photographer, I am willing to discuss the purchase of RAW files circumstantially. Otherwise, make sure and trust your photographer, their editing style, and the whole creative process!
