couples sessions + why you need one.

Whether you’re engaged, married, or just with someone special, there are a lot of reasons to invest in a session.

A photo session is a way to celebrate big milestones! It’s a way to freeze moments in time. It’s an excuse to get dressed up and go somewhere cool. I could go on all day but I won’t. Point is, having a couple’s session is a worthy investment. In this day and age, it’s easy to just pass off professional photos and use a smartphone to document the moments, but investing in timeless professional imagery is so special. It’s a way to really savor special times in your lives.

If you’re getting married, I absolutely advise an engagement session because it’s a great excuse to get to know your photographer and their shooting style. Engagement sessions help you learn to relax in front of the camera (because let’s face it, most of us aren’t models) and get comfortable with your wedding photographer (who is going to be with you ALL DAY on your wedding day). BUT you don’t have to be tying the knot to have a photo session.

Some Reasons for a Couples Session;
  • Engagement photos.

  • Anniversaries!

  • Because you wanna get dressed up.

  • Maternity (or family) photos.

  • Just for fun.

  • Buying a home!

  • Welcoming your new dog to the family.

Don’t just take it from me -

“Courtney took photos of my boyfriend and I this summer and afterwards, we couldn't stop talking about how comfortable she made us feel. Which is saying a lot, because we both don't love getting our photo taken! I really appreciate how much the photos FEEL like us and look true to life. Not to mention she shot ALL film?! She's so talented, and I can't wait for the next time we get to hang out with her!” - Kayla Thorson

frequently asked questions about sessions;

QUESTION:

What goes into my session package price?

ANSWER:

There are a lot of things I consider when building your perfect photo package, but the most important factor is time. Every couple has different priorities and ideas for how their couple’s session will look, and that usually changes the amount of time I would need to be there! For example, some couples really wanna hike to a super rad location. Others want to get some photos done at home. It all depends! I also factor in things like travel or family size (if there are a bunch of you, I’ll need more time), etc. We’ll cover all this stuff in our initial correspondence before I send you pricing!

QUESTION:

do we pick the location or do you?

ANSWER:

Either way! I’m a Central Oregon local so I’ve got my own list of session locations in this area. I’ve also lived and worked in the Portland area so I have some suggestions in that region as well. That being said, I am always open to go somewhere new! Think of spots that are special to you! Or consider traveling somewhere new and seeing where the road takes us. There are endless possibilities!

QUESTION:

but what should i wear?

ANSWER:

My first suggestion in this department is to dress comfortably and like yourselves. If you don’t usually wear high heels, now is not the time to start because you’ll feel unnatural and it’ll distract you from a fun experience! And dress for the experience; if we’re going hiking, wear hiking boots. My second suggestion is to avoid crazy patterns or, on the contrary, avoiding wearing completely matching outfits. If you need more outfit inspiration for a session, you can scope out my Pinterest board here!

question:

will you help pose us? will it be awkward?

Answer:

Hell yes I will. Better yet, I’ll encourage you to be yourselves and act natural. I’m not a big fan of posey, awkward, prom-style photos so I’ll do my best to create a comfortable environment during your session to make it easy to relax. We can have some beers (or wine), snacks, or go on an adventure to make it more of an experience than a “photoshoot.” My shooting style is very documentary so instead of posing you, I’ll throw out a prompt or two to get you moving around and laughing. We can plan activities (like canoeing or a picnic) to keep it fun and distracting so you’re not wondering what to do with your hands.
