film - like the good ol’ days

old school wedding photos with a modern touch.

let's talk about —

film wedding photography.

Film can be added to your wedding packages in so many ways — from Polaroids to 35mm film to Super8 Video, the possibilities are endless.

Film adds a nostalgic element to your wedding gallery unlike anything else. It elevates the storytelling aspect of wedding photography from simply documenting your day, to making your wedding photos pure art.

After studying film in college, I felt called to start incorporating this traditional medium into my current wedding photography business. Film photography in its many forms is becoming more and more popular on social media, and clients are loving the old-school vibes mixed into their modern wedding gallery. Shooting film at weddings reminds me, as a photographer, to slow down and appreciate the intentionality of my work while also satiating my creative thirst. It’s everything I love about photography.

Not getting married but want to do a film session? We can make that happen too.

I’ve shot film for families, engagements, and all kinds of other sessions as well. It adds a stylistic touch to every photo shoot no matter what the reason. If you’re interested in a film session (that isn’t a wedding) you can inquire here.

And the best news? Starting in 2023, Polaroids will be included in every wedding photography package.

Why I'm Obsessed with Film Photography:
  • Nostalgia is a huge part of my biz, and what’s more nostalgic than film?!

  • I studied the Art of Photography in college which means I spent a LOT of time in darkrooms perfecting my craft and honing my analog skills.

  • Making photos from start to finish is so much more intentional.

  • There are endless ways to get creative with film! Analog is endless.

  • Tangible photos?! My favorite.

frequently asked questions about FILM;

QUESTION:

what is film?

ANSWER:

If you’re a child of the late 80’s or early 90’s like myself, then you’ll remember a time when we had to load plastic rolls of light-sensitive paper into our cameras (or buy disposable cameras at the drug store). Well, that’s film! It’s a medium that was said to die out after digital photography was created. But, in fact, it’s coming back with a vengeance. It’s extremely popular within the fine art photography world and is gaining lots of popularity among wedding photographer as well. Super8 video is also film, but in motion picture form! It’s a little more outdated than 35mm film is but it’s just as beautiful and nostalgic. If you’re interested in reading more about this specific question, you can checkout my blog post What to Expect from your Analog Photographer.

QUESTION:

If we want the full package (35mm, Super8 and digital) won't that be too many cameras for one human?

ANSWER:

Short answer, nope! I’ve been doing this a long time and while it might look ridiculous for me to be carrying around 6 cameras at a time, I promise I won’t miss a thing. I’ve honed in my skills when it comes to shooting with both hands. That being said, if I’m ever feeling like it’s too much to handle, I also have people I can outsource certain tasks to. So if ever I need a second set of hands, I’ll make sure and bring them along.

QUESTION:

how many polaroids are included in my package?

ANSWER:

I usually shoot with my vintage polaroid camera, and it takes film in packs of 8, so at the very least you’ll have 8 polaroids in your package! After the wedding, I’ll scan them all at home so you can have a digital version included in your gallery, and then at the end of the year I’ll send you a little thank you package that includes your films and some other cute goodies (and of course a handwritten note).

question:

How long is the turnaround time for my scans and my super8 film?

Answer:

Everything will be delivered to you at the same time so you’ll never have to sit around and wait for half of your gallery. My turn around time for editing is pretty quick for digital images (I always try to get them to you on your one-month anniversary) so I will always do my best to make sure that your Super8 film and 35mm scans are done and included in your gallery by that same time. I can’t always control how quickly the labs work, though, so if there is ever any sort of delay, you’ll be the first to know!
